Providing food, healthcare, education and hope for a marginalised community - Meeting the need

The current community centre serves 100s of people each month, providing food, training, educational and medical support. But the demand is still huge. The second community centre will let us help even more people.

Community activities at MME will include

  • growing a lot of its own food for staff, guests, and community centre users.

  • providing food plants to our families, as well as chickens.

  • We also plan to use part of the site to teach local children about how they can grow more and better food for themselves and their families.

  • All this will supplement the work of the existing community centre, where meals are prepared and shared with local people. And there is a library, built and equipped by the charity and used by many local schools, plus a sensory room used by disabled children and their parents.

Rudo and the Library

“I use the community centre because it gives me a place to learn. At my school there are no books, but here I can read every day. The library is quiet and welcoming, and I feel safe. There are even computers, so I can practise skills I never imagined before. My reading has improved, and I have more confidence at school. The centre makes me believe I can achieve more in life.”
